Supplies - Vintage Japanese Silk Thread

I have just received the latest package from Japan and unpacked some beautiful vintage tsumugi silk threads! Tsumugi is traditionally spun by hand, using the flossy fibres left inside the silk cocoon once the 'proper' thread has been unravelled. By spinning these fibres, rather than letting them go to waste, a soft slubbed thread with a gentle sheen is created. Originally this humble fabric would have been woven and sown into kimono by farmers for their own use, however tsumugi silk is now highly prized and such kimonos are sought after by collectors who appreciate the understated beauty and unique qualities of the silk.

The two purple hanks were twisted into one huge one, so soft and lightweight, and if squeezed the most peculiar sensation of snow without the cold... I will be using my threads for embroidery - the colours would be perfect for an autumnal flower design, or stitched jewels/mineral specimens?
